Whats a Bettie?
To say a woman is a Bettie means not only is she attractive and sexy, she's also that playful person the guys want to come on that camping or ski trip… she is the friend everyone wants with them on that spontaneous journey.
So, what exactly is a Bettie? Like snowflakes, all Betties bring their unique charm and character to the name. That said, there are some common themes. For example, Betties are fun, exciting, playful, rascals that don't take themselves too seriously. If they aren't flirting, they're helping someone out and lending their support in a difficult situation. Maybe the biggest part about being a Bettie is that down to earth nature way of acting that reminds all of us of the girl next door. Betties are drama killers. They get along with both men and women. They judge people based on character, not their physical appearance. Betties can be black, white, brown or any other color.
Perhaps the Urban Dictionary can help with its definition of a Bettie:
A Bettie is the term used to describe an amazing person who you can depend on. Although Bettie is a common term referring to "hot surfer chick," Bettie is also a term for a "sweet and loving girl." The more you get to know her, the more you love being around her. She has a good sense of humor and a cute laugh. She's chill, yet hard working, as well as kind and considerate. Betties light up the room and light up our lives. She's happy and cheerful, cuddly, independent and smart. All the guys have secret crushes on her even though she doesn't realize it. She appreciates the simple things in life and can make anything good out of a bad situation...
That said, make no mistake. Along with their soft and loving side, a Bettie is also strong and won't be mistaken for a doormat. You will get a second chance (but you won't get a third). Betties are sweet, but they're also confident and refuse to be pushed around or taken advantage of.
While Betties can be found everywhere and in every walk of life, we seem to find lots of Betties in the surfing, extreme sports, retro, rockabilly, street racing, hotrod and tattoo worlds. And, this makes sense, as Betties love life and they like to live on the edge.... just a little.
And, now to a more serious note......
One of the reasons that we wanted to celebrate the Betties of the world was in response to the way other companies plant seeds of insecurity about body image and social status. Whether it's the way that models scowl on the catwalk or the self-important attitude of the latest reality TV star, we think the glorification of these types of women is wrong and damaging. Therefore, in response, we celebrate the Betties, those women in our lives that are loving, fun, supportive and productive people (the true qualities of a powerful, influential and prestigious woman).
We created Betties Fashions as a way to make a positive statement (either about yourself or about the women in your life).
